Coastwise Yacht Sales represents the Orange Coast College Foundation in the disposition of vessels donated to the Orange Coast College School of Sailing and Seamanship. Some vessels owned by the OCC Foundation are also represented by other brokers, and these vessels are also included on this site.
The Orange Coast College School of Sailing and Seamanship is one of the largest and most comprehensive community boating programs in the United States. The program operates out of its marina and school facilities in Newport Beach, CA.
Gifts of vessels to the School play an important role in providing on-going support for students of all ages seeking low-cost access to learning more about all aspects of sailing and powerboating. After use in the program or repair and material improvement, donated vessels are offered for sale or charter to the public. Income from these activities goes directly toward program needs.
While donated vessels are operated, maintained, and improved by the OCC School of Sailing and Seamanship, they are all 100% owned by the Orange Coast College Foundation, which is a federally registered 501 (c) 3 not for profit organization. As owner, the OCC Foundation controls all decisions related to the acquisition, use, maintenance, repair and disposition of its vessels. Income from the sale or charter of vessels is held in OCC Foundation accounts for support of the OCC School of Sailing and Seamanship. The OCC Foundation is the sole fundraising entity for Orange Coast College, which is one of California’s largest community colleges. More than 20,000 students enroll annually at OCC, attending classes on its 160-acre campus in Costa Mesa, California.
The OCC Foundation is operated by an executive staff and is managed by a 22-member board of community volunteers and OCC leaders. The OCC Foundation’s Marine Committee, a sub-committee of Foundation board members and OCC executives, oversees the activities of the yacht donation program.
Brad Avery manages the yacht donation program for the OCC Foundation. In this capacity, he reports to the OCC Foundation’s Marine Committee, through the executive director of the OCC Foundation. All decisions related to the acquisition, repair, improvement, charter or sale of Foundation vessels are made by the OCC Foundation Marine Committee.
Brad Avery is a retained yacht donation consultant for the Orange Coast College Foundation an the former director of Orange Coast College’s marine program and manager of the school’s yacht donation program. He represents the OCC Foundation in the acquisition, management, or disposition of OCC Foundation vessels. Brad Avery is a licensed yacht broker in the state of California.
